In Exception Management, the left-hand side of the screen is known as the Golden Source. This section holds data that has been verified and authenticated—either received directly from Department of Home Affairs (DHA) or previously validated for accuracy.
Document Uploads: When a verification document is uploaded, data is extracted from the MRZ (Machine Readable Zone) barcode and populated on the left-hand side. This reinforces its role as the authoritative source of trusted information.
During the comparison process, always use the Golden Source (left-hand side) as your baseline. Cross-reference it against the data displayed on the right-hand side to identify any discrepancies or mismatches.
When a request is submitted to Department of Home Affairs (DHA), the following information is returned:
HANIS: Biometric data, including facial and fingerprint records.
NPR: Demographic details such as first name(s), last name(s), date of birth, and other relevant personal information.
The diagram below illustrates how this data is presented in the Exception Report.
In cases where Department of Home Affairs (DHA) is offline, a photo is unavailable, or the user is a non-RSA citizen, identity verification is performed through Document Capture.
MRZ Barcode: Encrypted demographic information is extracted from the Machine-Readable Zone (MRZ) of the identity document. This data is considered the Golden Source and is displayed on the left-hand side of the interface.
OCR Data: Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is used to extract visible text and demographic information from scanned identity documents. While this data supports identity verification, it is not considered the Golden Source and is displayed on the right-hand side of the interface for comparison purposes.
Always compare the data extracted through OCR, displayed on the right-hand side, with the MRZ data on the left-hand side, which serves as the Golden Source. This ensures that there are no discrepancies between the two data sets.
The diagram below illustrates how this information is presented in the Exception Management:
Important Note: If no information is extracted from the MRZ, it may indicate a failure in data retrieval—potentially due to damage, poor quality, or possible tampering with the MRZ.
The example below demonstrates a scenario where data was successfully extracted using OCR; however, no information was retrieved from the MRZ barcode, which is considered the Golden Source.
