How Does One-Time Verification (OTV) Work?
Our One-Time Verification process uses a selfie to securely and automatically validate the user's identity by comparing their selfie to an official photo from the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) or an ID document. The following example shows how facial biometrics work, but the same concept applies to fingerprint verification. Here's how it works:
Selfie Capture by the User The user takes a live selfie using their device's camera. This image is captured in real-time to ensure authenticity and prevent the use of pre-recorded images.
Photo Extraction from Official Records A photo is retrieved either from Department of Home Affairs (DHA) database or if no photo is available at DHA a extracted photo from an uploaded identification document, such as a passport or driver's license.
Facial Comparison Advanced facial recognition algorithms compare the user's live selfie with the official photo. This biometric check analyzes facial features, ensuring they match accurately and account for minor variations like lighting or angles.
Liveness Detection To prevent spoofing attempts, the system employs liveness detection technology to confirm that the selfie is taken by a live person and not a static image or video.
Identity Verification Confirmation Once the facial comparison and liveness detection are successfully completed, the system confirms the user's identity. If there are any discrepancies, further steps may be taken for manual review or additional verification.
Secure Data Handling All data is processed and stored securely, adhering to strict privacy regulations to ensure the user's sensitive information remains protected.
This process ensures a seamless, accurate, and fraud-resistant identity verification experience for both users and organizations.
How Users Experience Biometric Verification
How it works
The verification process consists of the following steps:
The verification process is initiated, and a verification screen is displayed.
The user is prompted to capture their facial or fingerprint biometrics.
On-screen guidance is provided to assist users in capturing their biometric data accurately.
The applicant aligns their face or fingerprints within the designated frame, receiving real-time feedback through a green or red indicator, which adjusts based on the proximity of their face.
The system processes the data and generates the results.

How Users Experience ID Document Verification
In cases where Department of Home Affairs (DHA) is unavailable ; no photo available at Department of Home Affairs (DHA) or the user is Non-RSA Citizen, identity verification is conducted through document capture. This process requires the user to upload a valid identification document, such as a passport, driver’s license, smart ID, or green ID book. Relevant information is extracted from the document to verify the user’s identity and validate the data obtained during the document capture process.
